Government Should Provide Free Healthcare

Based on Wikipedia, Health care is the maintenance or improvement of health via the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease, illness, injury, and other physical and mental impairments in people. The state does not mean without citizens. The government needs to provide free healthcare facilities for all residents because the health and well-being of the population is a responsibility of the government.

Protection of life. This is the first statement why I support the statement. One of the most basic and important right is life. Human life should be considered as one of the highest values in this debate. Making sure that their citizens’ right to life is kept is the most important thing a just government should do. The best way to do this is to provide universal healthcare. Through universal healthcare service, people with injuries or diseases that may kill them can be saved. According to a research done by OECD, life expectancy have a positive correlation with universal healthcare system. Since universal healthcare is ‘universal’, every single person in the country can get the service. Poor people and rich people all can get the benefits from universal healthcare. Healthcare should be universal because healthcare is related to citizen’s right to safety. Through universal healthcare, people will feel that their dignity is respected by the country. Human life is more important than any other thing. Saving people through universal healthcare is what a just government should do. Therefore, universal healthcare protects human life.

The second statement is Taxes. Every people pay taxes. So, they need to get some facilities like free healthcare from government. In Indonesia, there is a health insurance and the example is BPJS. Some people born not in rich condition and people work hard and then pay retribution for taxes and BPJS. So, they need to get proper treatment and handling the same without any difference between the rich and the poor. With the existence of free health insurance, people who are less able can also treat diseases that they suffer without bothering to think about cost problems.

 However, there are some people who disagree with the statement and say if you have free health care that means someone has to pay. The people who pay are the government. This will decrease the economy making the resources decrease. In the end the country will be poor. But it all depends on how well the government uses state funds, and what must be the priority of the state is citizens.
